Side Door Barbecue
Your Boys & Mine Verdict:
Side Door Barbecue offers a true gastronomic experience, serving great American BBQ food pretty much right in the centre of Perth. The food is delicious and comes served on large platters which makes sharing easy and fun! We loved the uber cool decor, the service was first-class and the restaurant is totally kid-friendly.
A word of warning. Make sure you haven’t had a big breakfast or lunch before you go to Side Door Barbecue because the food is plentiful!

Located in the heart of Perth’s food haven, Beaufort Street this funky restaurant with a warehouse style interior is a gastronomic experience. We came across Side Door Barbecue when wandering Beaufort Street on a Sunday, looking for somewhere kid-friendly for lunch. We managed to get a table with no reservation, however the restaurant was very busy.
We were seated at a table indoors, but there are options to sit outdoors at the front of the restaurant or at booths indoors. The first thing we notice at the side of each table is a range of house made tomato and BBQ sauces, paper towel and toothpicks. This sets the scene for what is to come!
Soon after settling in to this casual restaurant, some complimentary sweet popcorn arrives on our table to share which is delicious. We order some drinks including the Ginger Beer punch which was very refreshing and so yum. Then it was time to order our food!
The way the restaurant works is you choose the foods that appeal to you from the menu and they come to your table, beautifully presented on large platters to share with the whole family. We love how this encourages the social element of eating out at a restaurant.
There is no specific kids menu however there are a few different options for kids on the main menu including fries, coleslaw, chicken and corn on the cob. The platter also comes with slices of fresh white bread which our boys loved and we used them to make chicken and coleslaw sandwiches. The meat and corn on the cob has a smokey flavour which my fussy eater didn’t like but he was happy with the other options available and a milkshake for dessert! We can recommend all of the kid-friendly food above as well as the pork ribs and pork lollipops. As a family of four we couldn’t get through all of this food and next time we would order one or two less items off the menu.
